Invitation to join The Nordic Aging Society

We are delighted to extend to you an invitation to become a member of The Nordic Aging Society (NAS) (www.nordicaging.org). As societies, including the Nordic countries, grapple with the challenges presented by an aging population, it is imperative that we unite and find innovative solutions to ensure a sustainable and healthy future for our region.

The proportion of individuals aged over 65 has seen a significant increase in Scandinavia, rising from approximately 10% in 1965 to 20% in 2019, with projections suggesting further growth in the coming years. This demographic shift brings with it an increased prevalence of chronic morbidities, such as cancer, cardiometabolic diseases, and neurodegenerative diseases, necessitating long-term and costly care.

Recognizing the urgency of these issues, the NAS has assembled a consortium of Nordic leaders in the field of aging. Our primary goal is to foster translational aging research, focusing on the development of interventions that promote healthy aging. With our consortium's expertise spanning from basic research, basic drug development and mouse intervention studies to clinical trial development and the societal impact of an aging population, we are well positioned to drive impactful research that will enhance the well-being and longevity of everyone. But we need your contribution as well!

To achieve our mission, the NAS operates on three central pillars: Network, Science, and Outreach. Under the Network pillar, we aim to cultivate collaborations among institutions across the Nordic countries. By working together as a unified front, we can better advocate for governmental changes, amplify our scientific endeavors, and expand our outreach efforts. As a member, you will have the opportunity to participate in the annual NAS symposium, where partners present their progress in scientific and outreach activities. Additionally, we offer a platform for knowledge exchange and training on research skills for PhD students and postdoctoral researchers, allowing them to benefit from the expertise of our collective network.

We are pleased to inform you that an advisory board of world leaders in the field will guide our endeavors, lending their invaluable insights and expertise. Their presence at our symposiums, whether in person or via virtual platforms like Zoom, ensures that our actions are aligned with the latest advancements in aging research.

Joining NAS not only grants you access to an extensive network of like-minded professionals but also empowers you to contribute to the advancement of aging studies in the Nordic countries. By gaining a deeper understanding of the molecular mechanisms of aging, we aim to develop approaches that slow down the aging process, ultimately reducing the incidence of age-related diseases. Our ultimate vision is to foster a happy, productive, and independent life for the elderly. We hope that you will join us in realizing our vision for a healthier and more fulfilling aging experience in the Nordic region.

If you wish to join, please write Morten Scheibye-Knudsen (mscheibye@sund.ku.dk) and you will be added to our website and email lists or create a profile using link: https://www.nordicaging.org/profile.php. Please note that membership fees will be paid annually (Membership fees 200 DKK for professors and other non-trainees, 100 DKK trainees).  Should you have any questions or require further assistance, do not hesitate to contact us at contact@nordicaging.org or +45 42 50 70 60.
