Michael Kjær receives Nordic Medical Prize

PRIZE

Pioneering, internationally leading and highly innovative is how Professor Michael Kjær’s research is described. And now he will receive one of the greatest medical prizes in the Nordic Countries, the Nordic Medical Prize, in recognition of his work.

Michael Kjær is a clinical professor of sports medicine at the Center for Healthy Aging, Copenhagen University and theme leader in theme 3, and a chief physician at Bispebjerg Hospital. He has received the Nordic Medical Prize, in recognition of his work.

Among other things, Michael Kjær is awarded the prize because of his extensive and internationally leading translational research, which has focused on the basal effects of physical activity in the human endocrine system and fibrous tissue. The committee emphasises that his research has led to ground-breaking discoveries in relation to the mechanisms connected to tendon and muscle injuries.

"I’m very happy and proud to receive the Nordic Medical Prize. It constitutes great recognition and I hope that the prize will help bring increased focus to the area of sports medicine as well as my research group’s efforts to understand the mechanisms connected to excessive strain on tendons and the development of sports injuries," Professor Michael Kjær states.

Michael Kjær shares the prize with researchers Lars Engebretsen and Roald Bahr from the University of Oslo as well as Jón Karlsson from Gothenburg University. Nordiska Medicinpriset in collaboration with Folksam award the prize in recognition of significant scientific efforts in areas of great importance to human health.

The prize will be awarded at a ceremony in Stockholm on 27 January 2016.
