IARU Congress 2014

From the 17th to the 21st of June 2014 The University of Copenhagen hosted three scientific conferences. A conference on the biology of aging, a conference on the cultures of healthy aging and third a graduate student conference. The congress was sponsored by Rector of University of Copenhagen, Dean of Faculty of Health Sciences, and the Center for Healthy Aging, Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Copenhagen.

The congress was planned in the context of the International Alliance of Research Universities, IARU (http://www.iaruni.org/).

Here you will find information about the three conferences and look at their respective programmes. Summaries of the conferences on the biology of aging and on the cultures of healthy aging is available here.

Conference on the biology of aging

From 17-20 June 2014 Center for Healthy Aging hosted an international conference on Genome Dynamics in Neuroscience and Aging for leading international aging scientists in Elsinor, Denmark.

The conference was hosted by Center for Healthy Aging within the framework of the International Alliance of Research Universities, and it represented different aspects of the biology of aging. The conference sought to let scientists from the International Alliance of Research Universities and others share and present their work.

Genome Dynamics in Neuroscience and Aging took place from 17 to 20 of June 2014 in Elsinor. The conference was primarily targeted at scientists and clinicians interested in genomic stability, mitochondrial function and neural development and degeneration.

Several subthemes was presented and discussed. These include Epigenetics and neurodegeneration, Genome dynamics in the development of the nervous system and Genome dynamics in aging and senescence.

Cultures in health and aging

From June 20-21 2014 Center for Healthy Aging hosted an international conference on cultures in health and aging in Copenhagen for leading aging scientists from all over the world.

The conference on cultures in health and aging was hosted by Center for Healthy Aging within the framework of the International Alliance of Research Universities. The conference sought to let scientists from the International Alliance of Research Universities and others share and present their work.

Cultures in health and aging took place from 20 to 21 of June 2014 in Copenhagen. The conference was primarily targeted at scientists within humanities, and social and behavioral sciences.

Graduate Student Conference

From June 21-22 2014 Center for Healthy Aging hosted an interdisciplinary Graduate student conference (GSC) on “Aging Research and Scientific
Careers”, targeted at PhD students from various research fields with interests
in health and aging research.

The GSC served as an interdisciplinary platform for graduate students to share their research and explore the possibility of collaborative partnerships within the IARU network. Participants were invited to submit an abstract in the purpose of giving a presentation.

As a part of the GSC, participants took part in the career track for young scientist at Euroscience Open Forum (ESOF) 2014 “Science Building Bridges”. The ESOF 2014 was held in Copenhagen on 21-26 June. ESOF is a biennial pan-European meeting dedicated to scientific research and innovation. At ESOF meetings, leading scientists, researchers, business people, entrepreneurs and innovators, policy makers, science and technology communicators and the general public from all over Europe discuss new discoveries and debate the direction that research will be taking in science.
